Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) has long been a concern for young teenagers, particularly females, during puberty (Menger & Sin, 2023). At Chiropractic Wellness Centre Ltd., we have consistently emphasized the importance of detecting AIS in young teenagers, aiming to reduce abnormal spinal curvature development and alleviate its musculoskeletal effects. In early July, we had the privilege of conducting a workshop with Hong Kong Belilios Public School, collaborating with their students to establish common daily habits and explore solutions for pain relief. Led by Chiropractic Wellness Centre Ltd.'s several chiropractors, this workshop is to highlighted the significance of spinal health, specifically in identifying the onset of scoliosis.
During the session, we covered several critical areas:
- Raising awareness about correct posture
- Importance of regular spine checks for early detection of scoliosis
- Impact of prolonged sitting and desk work on spinal health
- Benefits of physical activities, including sports and music, promoting correct postures in fostering long-term general functioning
- Importance of orthotics
- Strengthening exercises and in-door friendly stretching routines
The workshop has been fundamental for us chiropractors, offering a valuable platform to educate students on maintaining proper posture and the importance of spinal health during their developmental years. We look forward to continuing our journey via collaborations to educate younger generations and hoping to make spinal checks a standard practice for adolescents.
